Unimatic Engineers has launched Galaad, a new CAD/CAM software package, developed to address the increasing pressure manufacturing industry is feeling to reduce design, development and production costs.
Galaad is a 2.5D package, so is ideal for functions such as milling, profiling, engraving and sign making. It is available as a core programme, which provides the user with full 2.5D capabilities for functions such as profiling and engraving. There are then a number of add-on modules that enhance its capabilities with specific functions; for instance there are specialist milling modules for 2D contour milling, pocket milling etc.
Early adopters of Galaad are reporting its competitive pricing and operational flexibility to be redefining the financial environment for CAD/CAM operations. They are also finding it to be fully capable compared to far more expensive packages, saying it has some very useful features such as supporting all standard Windows fonts for engraving, high-speed data processing and automatic tool path optimisation.
One of the key features is that HPGL and DXF files produced in the popular design program Techsoft 2D can be imported directly into Galaad for CAM production.
The programme can be used with most machine tools, effortlessly converting even the most complex of designs into vector paths for the cutting head. Typical users include engravers, sign makers and industrial model makers. It is also proving very popular with universities, schools and colleges, due to its intuitive user interface, ease of use and flexibility. Unimatic is actively promoting its uptake by the educational sector, so that students are trained on truly industrial systems and can therefore transfer seamlessly from education to employment and make an immediate contribution to productivity.
